Transparency, The Presidential Edition

Now that the presidential nominees are pretty much in place, Sunshine Review wanted to give our readers a snapshot of where each candidate stands on our favorite issue, government transparency. Even in a highly-contentious presidential election year where agreement on any topic is rare, both Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama have said they favor greater government transparency.

A few highlights on the issue:

Wired recently posted an interview with Republican National Committee Victory ’08 Chairman Carly Fiorina that touched on the topic of transparency as a presidential issue.

From the article:

Internet-enabled government transparency has become a hot topic on the campaign trail this year. Barack Obama has specifically made it part of his technology policy platform, and Hillary Clinton has called for a “government blogging team.”

For his part, McCain would immediately order a top-to-bottom review of every federal government program, including Pentagon programs, and post the results on the internet, said Fiorina.

Go here to see The Swamp yak about McCain and Obama co-sponsoring a follow-up to the 2006 Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act. The LA Times gets bloggy with the same story right here.
